An active educational approach places the child at the centre of his or her learning by doing class projects and concrete experiments. For instance, preparing compote becomes an ideal opportunity for an awakening lesson, solving a math problem or introducing a new grammar rule.
A first class teaching team who embody the school's fundamental values while transmitting a quality curriculum. No more ex cathedra [theoretical] lessons where the child yawns with boredom. At Beth Aviv, the child participates and lives what he or she learns. Competition is effectively making room for love of learning
A living Judaism in which children from orthodox or secular families can flourish. Hebrew, traditions, the sabbath, the Bible - school life turns around the Jewish holidays. That culture is blended with the transmission of values dear to us such as tzedaka, solidarity and tolerance. That programme culminates in the school trip to Israel at the end of Year 6. In essence our school children are expedriencing activities that will last them a lifetime
Foreign language learning is an undisputed strong point at Beth Aviv. Beyond the "French Community" programme, Hebrew is taught from the first year of kindergarten. We use, among other things, songs, holiday celebrations and the sabbath in order to teach the language.
Dutch also has a prominent place within our walls. From Year 1, Belgium's second language becomes an integral part of the curriculum.
As with languages, it is essential that our children get used to computers from an early age. From the first year of kindergarten, each classroom is equipped with computers which the children get used to using through play. In primary school, a dedicated computer room allows the children to follow "logo" classes, get used to searching the web and become desktop publishing "pros"
Extra classes allow children with difficulties in certain subjects to catch up at school. The customised follow up benefits the children from Year 1 in core subject such as French and maths but also in Hebrew if necessary.
In 1978, a handful of parents decided to create a Jewish school with a family atmosphere, teaching a quality curriculum where each child would become the master of his or her own learning. That project bore fruit under the leadership of Ouzia Chat and a Board of parents and teachers.
A few years (and moves) later, Beth Aviv has grown but has not wavered from its initial mission. The school transmits, educates and remains faithful to its vision: combine Jewish education with a solid curriculum. The dream has been fulfilled!
Building on its excellent reputation as a kindergarten, Beth Aviv opened a creche, the Boutchous, in September 2004. These lucky young children are fully integrated into the school and quietly flourish in a suitably adapted environment.
The boutchous's days are very busy with stimulating activities that include arts and crafts, games and cuddles... all supervised by professional staff.
The creche is the ideal entry into the "big school", which they join when they turn 2½.
The "Bambins", pre-kindergarten class welcomes children from the age of 2½. Our little darlings thrive in a safe and stimulating environment.
Through games and songs, Hebrew becomes a natural part of their school life.
A weekly visit to the school library, joint activities with other classes, excursions... each is a pretext for having fun while learning. And let's not forget the sabbath celebration every Friday morning, enriching the lives of our children.
Beth-Aviv is a "French Community" certified and subsidised primary school. It is renowned for the quality of its teaching [curriculum]. The children follow the "French Community" curriculum and, at the end of primary school, receive the Basic Studies Certificate (CEB) if they maintain a 60% average over their last two years.
During these years, each child learns to manage projects, to explore, to memorise, to create and to imagine
Naturally the curriculum is closely followed, but the children also benefit a "logo" class (programming language), a word processing software class and swimming lessons. Group recorder lessons are taught from the first year of primary school
The small class size allows each child to learn at his or her own pace. Without competition. Far beyond its strict educating role, Beth Aviv is a school of life where children blossom.
Beth Aviv is managed by a Board of Governors comprised of:
The role of the Board of Governors is primarily to ensure the correct operation of the school by supporting its principal with respect to the learning roadmap and to ensure that the necessary funds are gathered in order maintain the school from a logistics perspective.
The Board of Governors is also responsible for organizing all school events. These events typically take a large place in the life of the school as they create the social link to manage the school’s finances.
In addition to the Board of Governors, there are also parents that take the role of class delegates in order to provide a link between the classroom and the teachers or the principal.
Volunteer parents also regularly take part by providing a presence in the library and the different event committees.
Beth Aviv is a school where parents, who wish to have a more active a role, can take part in order to provide the best educational environment for their child.

Who are we?
Beth Aviv is first and foremost a full accredited nursery and primary school funded by the French community that strives for educational excellence through an active learning approach.
We are also a Jewish school where we teach Hebrew, its related culture as well as the story of our community.
Our school is truly a place where every child is encouraged to evolve according to their own abilities. Working in partnership with our parents, our well balanced curriculum aims to prepare each student to go on and learn with confidence in a happy and fun environment.
Our aim is to take on all of the above ingredients in order to allow our little ones to create a strong Jewish identity while at the same time following a spirit of tolerance and cultural diversity.
